Introduction to Master Alignment®

There are over three billion units of information within the DNA of each cell, yet only 1% of that number is actual genetics. Science has labeled the remaining 99% "Junk DNA" because it has not yet determined its meaning or purpose. However, Science does know that this portion of the DNA contains the patterning characteristics which identify us as unique from all other humans. The simple and profound fact that forms the basis of the Master Alignment Work is that the 99% of non-genetic material in the DNA carries a recording of all major emotion-laden and survival information both from our own experiences as well as those of our ancestors going back 45,000 years. And this information powerfully affects our decisions, choices, emotions and many aspects of our lives today!

Throughout time, many cultures recorded their history not in stone or on scrolls but in nonwritten form. They utilized story, poetry, song, and dance to immortalize both important events and teachings. Today we receive the latest information through newspapers, books, magazines, and even on the Internet; yet we still continue the oral tradition by communicating through radio, television, lectures, workshops, movies, plays, and even by telephone.

Since 1989, when Master Alignment began, we have shared the majority of our information orally-in personal sessions, workshops, and in the training classes. Two earlier books, published in 1996 and 1997, along with the nearly five years of newsletters, represent only a small portion of the "body of knowledge" that has accumulated since 1989.

The books and the newsletter articles actually start at an intermediate level. They often refer to, yet do not fully explain, much of the basic information. While they build upon this, there are times when complete understanding is not always present, because there is no record to study alongside the more intermediate and advanced teachings. As all teachers know, oral information is not retained as long as that encapsulated in the written word; nor, from a historical perspective, is its impact as great. Therefore, this Introduction to Master Alignment attempts to share some of the basic teachings. They are expanded on in greater depth in our newest book, The Power of Love, The Key to Opening the Gifts Hidden in Our DNA, which also contains many stories illustrating each of the points that follow.
What is Master Alignment about?
There are many levels in the Master Alignment teachings, however at the most fundamental level Master Alignment offers a new understanding about the relationship between the mind, emotions, and the body. At a higher level, we teach that the purpose of this new understanding, and the processes based on it, is to prepare individuals to take on their Soul Purpose Work as well as to assist humanity's quantum evolutionary shift into a new species - Homo Spiritus . To accomplish these goals, we first must comprehend the role our body has played in our human and spiritual development up to this point.
Then, what is exactly is this new understanding?
It is a truth being verified by modern science more each day: While we may think that we think with our minds alone, the human body in fact has another "mind of its own." This "other mind" is in every cell of our bodies, stored in our DNA. The human DNA is comprised of two parts: 1% or 300,000 units, is the information in our genes - that portion which was recently mapped by the Human Genome Project; the remaining 99% , or 2.9 billion units, is currently labeled "Junk DNA." Since 1989, we have been demonstrating that the 99% nongenetic portion of the DNA contains vast amounts of intelligent information gathered from our ancestors' and our own past experiences. We call the DNA the BodyMind.

The data in this "Living Library" is recorded to support humanity's overall evolutionary development as well as to promote physical survival. If the body had not adopted such a permanent system of recording information in the DNA to be passed down through the ages, it would have been necessary for humans to "begin at the beginning" every time a child was born -there would never have been a Mozart, or an Einstein, for example. More importantly, we would also have had to relearn all the information that supports self-preservation. As all animals are born with instinctual knowledge designed to ensure their survival, in the same way, information stored in the BodyMind is meant to preserve the human species by promoting survival of the physical body. In its capacity as protector of the human species, the DNA also contains a built-in alarm system - a triggering apparatus to warn us through our emotions when the human body is placed in any form of danger. The BodyMind's primary tool for this purpose is the emotion of fear. In fact, as the animals show us, the only true purpose of fear is to warn us when our bodies may be in danger.
While much of the imprinted DNA information is both valid and useful to all of us today, some survival triggers may also be outdated and therefore create unnecessary problems in our lives. You may recall an experience when, for no apparent reason, you somehow either could not do something that you had set out to do, or you could not help doing something, even though it made no logical sense to you. Similarly, you may recall a long-held desire that you had given up hope of ever achieving, because somehow you felt inexplicably blocked from doing it. These are examples of the logical mind being "overruled" by the BodyMind, as it attempts to ensure the body's survival. Based on this new understanding concerning the effect of the outdated information held in the DNA, the first purpose of Master Alignment is to find, identify and then clear these outdated blocks still held in the BodyMind, thus freeing one to go forward unfettered by these old fear-based beliefs.
Aren't all emotions triggered by what's in the mind?
We have all heard that "everything begins in the mind"- that emotions are always reactions to thoughts initiated by the brain; that we could stop painful emotions by simply changing our thoughts. These statements are sometimes confusing since there are numerous instances when we have all felt anger, fear or emotional pain without knowing what thoughts - or even what events -triggered them. We were then told that there are two general categories of thoughts: conscious and unconscious. Therefore, it was explained, when we cannot find a rational reason for our emotional reactions, this is because they are caused by our unconscious thoughts. This understanding serves as the basis for most systems of modern psychotherapy, especially those seeking to uncover the unconscious processes that lead to unwanted emotions or inappropriate actions based on them.

While thoughts-as-emotional-trigger may indeed be true in a great many cases, the explanation is incomplete. Therapists, especially, find themselves working for months, if not years, using their best techniques with patients, without being able to break through to eradicate some core issues. Yet an answer seems closer if we include the basic information within Master Alignment -that there is another mind, the BodyMind - which triggers powerful emotions even faster than the thoughts from the rational mind. Further, the BodyMind is vastly more comprehensive than the brain because it contains information that is thousands of years old, while the brain is the same age as the present body.

For the first several years while introducing Master Alignment teachings to the general public, we kept repeating "It's in the body!" We wanted people to shift from the limiting idea that many "problems" could be solved by uncovering and changing one's hidden thoughts in the brain. We agree that there is a need to find our hidden "belief and emotion complexes," which we call Patterns, followed by the necessity of making new choices to unravel or release them. However, we differ on the location of those complexes. Master Alignment teaches that many of our blocking Patterns are located in the DNA-in the BodyMind. Therefore, no amount of rational reprogramming will be effective in changing one's life, or emotional reactions, if the hidden beliefs triggering them are part of the survival information in the BodyMind.

In 1998, Candace Pert, Ph.D. a Neuroscientist and Research Professor, wrote a book titled Molecules of Emotion ; it discusses the effects of neuropeptides on the creation of emotional states in the body. The book-considered ground breaking- contains information in the very beginning to the effect that the neuropeptides' chemical reactions are programmed by the information in the DNA. Yet that is the first and last mention of the DNA in the book! The logical conclusion is that we must examine the information that exists in the DNA if we truly want to discover the real reasons for some of our emotions.
Can you elaborate on what a Pattern is?
We have briefly described a Pattern as a complex combination of beliefs and emotions; they are repetitious in nature. Patterns are complex because they can contain a major belief, such as "I am unworthy," and several minor ones that are based upon it: "I will be abandoned by those I love (because I am unworthy)." "I will not get promoted (because I am unworthy)." "People won't talk to me at the party (because I am unworthy)." "I work harder than everyone else (because I am not worthy)." While this is a very simple example, the potential list for just this one belief is endless.

All Patterns also generate feelings such as shame, discouragement, grief, rage, fear, sorrow-another endless list. Generally the feeling or emotion will be experienced when the associated Pattern belief is triggered by internal or external events. Merely thinking about one's schedule for the next week can cause a chain reaction that allows the Pattern to arise in multiple forms. If one who feels unworthy is called into the boss's office, for example, they might immediately presume that it is because the boss intends to discuss their failures (and therefore prove their unworthiness). Because all Patterns have a underlying issue around survival, this will engender fear about losing one's job before one has even entered the office.

There are multiple times when the Pattern's emotional component is triggered outside of one's conscious awareness; one suddenly feels hurt, shame or fear without knowing why this is happening. The body's survival mechanism is so acute that its responses in the form of emotional reactions can be immediate and intense.
What about Patterns being repetitious -how is that?
The very word "Pattern" connotes something that has a repeating design. A white piece of cloth is plain, while one with a paisley print on it is clearly patterned. If we have a hidden fear Pattern that is blocking us, we have already experienced it throughout our life in many forms therefore, it is repeated. Once it can be named it is often easy to discern instances where it was operating. This leads to the common reaction "Oh, that's why"; we call this "connecting the dots."
An isolated instance of trauma or pain is not necessarily a Pattern, it might simply be a new learning experience. We must be careful not to allow it to form into a Pattern, however.
Then Patterns explain why I sometimes feel so stuck?
As mentioned above, whenever the BodyMind perceives a threat-valid or not-it will set off an "alarm" in the body by triggering fear-based emotions ranging from worry to outright terror. Unfortunately, if the threat is not real, we are often stopped from going forward when there is no actual danger, and we do not understand what has happened. Applying its memory of past emotional/physical experiences, our BodyMind can actually stop us from being who we truly are-even when our desires are strong. The information imprinted as "truth" within the BodyMind may be "out of alignment" with one's rational mind, one's heart's desires, and one's spiritual attainments. The information in the DNA can overrule all of these factors if the BodyMind determines for some reason that its physical survival is at stake. The Teacher who cannot teach, the Actor who cannot get a role, the promising Athlete who cannot get out of his slump-all of these may be the effects of hidden Patterns which are impervious to mind-altering techniques. Master Alignment has seen thousands of cases where Patterns are the primary block to living up to one's full potential, or to achieving one's Soul Purpose in this life! The person-or really the BodyMind-is out of alignment due to the outdated information imprinted in the DNA.

Through the BodyMind Alignment Healing Technique, Master Alignment offers a way to align the BodyMind with our hearts, our personal will and with our Higher Will by transforming the DNA; it rewrites the outdated information while also retaining its underlying wisdom. This automatically also lessens or removes the emotional triggers associated with the outdated data. It does not leave us unprotected, because a warning will still be given if real danger arises.
Doesn't the BodyMind realize the information is outdated?
The BodyMind, unlike the brain, has no sense of what time-or what century-it is. To its way of thinking, all of its patterned "truths" are as valid today as they were the moment they were imprinted. This works well when the BodyMind reminds us not to put our hand in a fire, but not when it insists that an outdated fear-based belief must be honored in the present for its "truth." A fear of crossing the street alone is healthy in a three year old, who requires adult supervision, yet this same fear is pathological in an otherwise healthy thirty year old.
Is something wrong with me if I have a Pattern?
There is nothing "wrong" with you personally, unless you see self-preservation as "wrong." Please understand that your body is simply trying to warn you. Your desired action might be very innocuous, such as a woman wanting to take a daytime walk in her neighborhood for exercise. She might experience an unease that is so disquieting when she tries to do this that she stops. Questioning herself, she might find there is no fear of being attacked: she lives in a quiet and safe area, and there have never been reports of others being harmed. In fact she often sees people walking their dogs, or strolling with friends, yet she cannot go out the door to take a walk. Why is her body stopping her? Patterns are also formed through past conditioning, so there could be many reasons for the body's warning or inaction. One explanation for her fear might be based on past sociocultural conditioning established when it was considered absolutely improper, and therefore unacceptable, for a single woman of a certain class to be seen walking alone-only servants and "streetwalkers" did that! Thus, if a woman's sense of belonging or acceptance within society absolutely demanded that she not walk unaccompanied down the sidewalk, her "survival" within the community depended on her following this precept. This sociocultural Pattern might have been imprinted in her DNA by a Victorian-era ancestor, or it may have been a "truth" she never questioned in a strict Muslim culture, similar to the one that exists today in Afghanistan. Therefore, to her BodyMind, the punishment for taking a walk might range from social ostracism to a public whipping!
Then how many Patterns must we have?
Even if we were to limit our definition of the word "Pattern" to those that bring up any form of fear, we might hold thousands of DNA Patterns, not all of which may be noticed by us, however. Everything in the human condition, if taken to an extreme, can create a Pattern. Because we have the DNA of all our ancestors, it is easy to presume that we all carry imprinting from a great variety of survival situations. Yet some of these do not manifest today as Patterns but as wisdom, or they show up as gifts and talents. As we use the term in Master Alignment, Patterns are unintegrated past experiences which manifest today as pain, fear, or blocks. Patterns also affect each individual differently-one person's core issue, or "ten" on a scale of one-to-ten, might be another's "three" or "six."
Is fear the way I know when I'm in a Pattern?
While we generally teach that a Pattern can be expressed as a "fear of" or a "need to" it is important to remember that fear is expressed in many different ways-worry, anxiety, grief, and guilt are also forms of fear- and all "need to's" are directly fear-based. We all "need to" breathe because we know an inability to do so will lead to death; in the same way our need to have food, clothing and shelter are also based on survival. This is merely basic self-preservation, and we do not want to eliminate this level of information from the body. However, a "need to be right" might be based on a long outdated fear of losing our life if we are found to be wrong. It is fine to want to be right, especially if we have a job that requires us to be as accurate as possible. When we use the phrase "need to" we mean when this has become an obsession beyond the normal requirements of the situation. A "need to" might be felt as an inner urgency that creates stress in the body. It is safe to say that all emotional stress is likely to relate to fear Patterns.

Certainly there is a Pattern operating if one has experienced a series of similar situations in his or her life that have caused pain or blockage. If one fears being abandoned in relationships, for example, and has had a parent, friend or lover who did abandon them, then there is a Pattern that needs to be addressed and cleared.
Must we believe in past lives in order to uncover and clear Patterns?
No, not at all. It is necessary, however, to realize that you carry the DNA history of all your ancestors on both your maternal and paternal lines going back at least ten thousand years. Can you even imagine how many ancestors that is? Everyone has two parents, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents-that is fourteen different people covering a mere hundred years! You have inherited your ancestors' "stories" in the same way that you also inherited their skin, eye and hair color. Great- grandmother may have imprinted a strong aversion to snakes from her experience of being bitten by one; today you may have a phobia about snakes without ever having seen one except on television. There is a biblical quote that seems to confirm this principle: "The sins of the father shall be visited upon the son." Something to think about. Just as some of the genes in the 1% of the DNA are recessive, not all of your fears, griefs, and guilts are as prevalent as others, however. No one is capable of consciously living with all possible Patterns operating at full tilt. Here is where the Soul comes in: It decides what issues and spiritual lessons we are to address in order to move forward.
What is the difference between Patterns and karma?
We might look at karma as primarily a spiritual matter-a debit or credit monitored by the Soul. Patterns are always about the body. Yet both karma and a fear-based Pattern might or might not have been formed within the same situation. Although it can relate to the same event wherein karma was created, in general we teach that a Pattern is what remains in the body after the karma has been balanced.

Let's use a simple yet dramatic example of a man who injures another person out of rage. If this was not done during war or self-defense, then the attacker has incurred a spiritual karmic debt which is usually balanced through his being injured by another in the same or later lifetime. When this subsequent injury occurs, the man's karmic debt is balanced; however, his body simultaneously records the traumatic circumstances in the DNA because it wants to avoid all future injuries. So, in this instance, if he were stabbed in the back by a false friend in the middle of a fierce thunderstorm, today his body might warn him not to trust others because it fears "betrayal" by one who is close to him; he may unconsciously prefer to always sit with his back against the wall in public places; and he may even become uneasy or feel anger whenever there is a powerful storm.

This relates back to the question of how many Patterns we have; each reaction was set in the body during the initial trauma, yet today they will act as individual triggers for the Pattern. That is why we often compare a Pattern to an intricate wooden ball puzzle: there is one complete whole-the major Pattern-and individual "need tos." Because each element within the Pattern has the power to call up the original life-or-death fear, that is why we say that all Patterns are holographic in nature.
What is the difference between clearing the DNA and clearing cellular memory?
Without making this a complicated biology lesson, we all know that the cell is composed of several different parts. The DNA molecules are found inside the nucleus, while the "cellular memory" is part of the chemical "soup" surrounding it. For our purposes, we teach that this "soup" contains some of the chemistry associated with fear. This is very simplistic if you are a biologist, yet most of us are not. There are many techniques to "clear" the cellular memory, removing for a time the various fear reactions, and these processes can be very profound. However, because the formula used to create the cellular "soup" is held in the DNA, and these techniques are unable to address or change that formula, the cellular memory simply reforms itself. As we mentioned in Part I, Candace Pert's Molecules of Emotion, notes that the neuropeptide chemicals are influenced by DNA information.

Therefore, without significant change to the DNA itself, the cellular memory clearing may only be temporary and must be repeated. In contrast, during the BodyMind Alignment Session, the Practitioner uses high velocities of energy to rewrite the Pattern in the DNA. In addition, during the session the client receives sufficient energy to continue further clearing-on that or any other fear Pattern--if they work with Willingness, Awareness, Choice.
How do I start working on clearing my patterns?
By receiving an Individual BodyMind Alignment Session with a certified Master Alignment Practitioner. During a personal BodyMind Alignment session one receives powerful energies and information to rewrite old imprinting held in the DNA. One of the Core Patterns held in the body will be discussed and the person receives energies allowing them to clear the body of this
long-outdated fear Pattern. Only one BodyMind Alignment session is necessary because the energies allow a person to not only clear that particular Pattern, it also empowers them to clear other Patterns that might arise in the future.

For those serious about their spiritual/psychological growth or who are interested in service to Humanity, there are additional Master Alignment Programs that both assist you in your personal
progress as well as train you in techniques to help others.
